  Japanese beetle control

  There is also a non-toxic, biological control for Japanese beetles called milky spore disease. It comes in a granulated form that you spread in the spring. The larval form of the beetle, called grubs (which can damage lawns from underneath), dies from the disease and thus does not reproduce. The disease is very species-specific, so it doesn't harm other beneficial insects, and can persist and spread for several years, benefiting your whole neighborhood.   Many big-box "organics" really not

  In the debate over the future of organics, the article got at least one thing totally wrong. Many of the organic brands sold in stores are owned by big multinationals like Aurora Organic (which relabels as store brand for many big grocery chains), Dean Foods (Horizon Dairy), Kellogg's (Morningstar Farms), ConAgra (Smart Dogs) and Kraft/Phillip Morris (Boca Burger).   So many of these products are not up to federal organic standards (which are under constant attack by these companies anyway).
  Look for real organic producers that embrace the whole specturm of what attracted many of us to organics in the first place - small family farms with a commitment to stewardship of the earth, not just a slice of the organic profits. Look to Organic Valley Dairy for a good example.

  It's not completely eco-themed, but I nominate Hot Buttered Rum String Band's new album "Well-Oiled Machine" with the title track being about their veggie-oil-fueled tour bus.

  Oh yeah, and Summer Rayne Oakes is totally hot.
