Further reasons to Declare our Endependence
King Coal and Big Oil are going to pull out all of the propaganda stops. We can't be fooled again.
Citizens need to band together to insist on energy independence that ends dependence on polluting fuels.
You can sign the Declaration of Endependence and show others how you save energy. You can also get ideas about great ways to save energy.

All they have is propoganda and spin
The salient point of "eco" words falling out of fashion is that the deniers have nothing but words to argue over.
What if carbon dioxide is not leading to global warming, how could toxic coal ash, mercury, nitrous oxide, carbon monoxide and all of the other "baddies" that come with fossil fuel use justify our continued reliance on them? Can you read "big business" on the wall?
This is a great video about where the deniers come from. It is 40 minutes long, but it is all we need to know about the "other side" of the argument (including some great footage of the Orwellian Frank Luntz).

We are waging a war for "endependence" = energy independence that ends dependence on polluting fuels.

Energy externalities are different going forward
Okay, the comparison to the bakery is good for illustration of the broad concept of externalities, but it is important to recognize that our energy challenge externalities are different now.
Now we know about the coal ash, carbon dioxide, mercury, etc. generated by coal fired plants and we are still reluctant to do everything possible to move toward non-polluting power sources.
We continue to think of alternative energy as "expensive". It is only expensive compared to the cheap and deadly stuff we have become addicted to.
In the long run, alternative energy will work out to be much better for our economic security, for our national security and for our environment.
We can demand a move toward endependence, energy independence that ends dependence on polluting fuels.

Another reason for the War for Endependence
Wow, this is scary stuff.
We knew we were messing things up for our children, but not for 100s of generations of children.
We need to band together and demand that we chart a course for energy independence that ends dependence on polluting fuel.
We call if Endependence.
There are personal, local community, state and federal steps we can take. You can find out more at endependence.info .

we need a War for Endependence
Motives aside, Dr. Hirsh's thought that we should keep the problems of peak oil under our hats to spare society more angst and depression (mental and economic) should be rejected.
Politicians are hot on the buzzword "energy independence". They see patriotism and national security halos floating above their heads when they utter the phrase...energy independence.
We propose that the citizens demand something more:
Endependence-energy independence that ends dependence on polluting fuels. The politicians can have their halos, but in exchange we have to hold them accountable to make the energy choices that get us to a sustainable environment and an energy system that doesn't rely on "cheap" (fossil fuel) energy.
