Excellent article
What worries me is the complete lack of regard for everything except profit. Are these CEO's and senior executives so far removed from reality that they cannot see further than the bottom dollar?
It worries me that the world as we know it could be destroyed by the actions of a small group of rich and powerful people who are outside the democratic process. It's not just the US though, Europe is as bad but with less fossil fuel resources."Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize that we cannot eat money."

Thanks for the reminder
I know I shouldn't get emotional or sentimental about one species in particular, but I have shed a few tears over the plight of orangutans. Every year more forest burns in Borneo, killing millions of creatures, not just orangutans. This is the price we in the west seem willing to pay so we can have palm oil in our food. How can we put pressure on the Indonesian Govt to stop this annual massacre? Well, I have sent emails to influential people in the Indonesian Government via this site: http://www.climateark.org/alerts/send.asp?id=indonesia_pe... and the more emails they receive, the more likely the Government will take steps to prevent future burnings. I hope...

I Love Mountains
I followed the link in the article, never expecting to find that in the US they decimate real, proper mountains just to extract coal. I am very, very shocked to think that anyone could conceive of such an idea, nevermind a nation that could condone such activity. Shame on you America for allowing this and I sincerely hope that the campaign is successful. This is something that should be publicized worldwide as it is possibly the most shocking exploitation of the earth's natural resources I have heard of yet.

Steve Irwin RIP
I was very saddened by the news of Steve Irwin's death while filming a documentary. I was fortunate enough to meet the man when I visited the Australia Zoo and he was a really nice guy. I hope his enthusiasm and deep love of nature will inspire others to make this planet of ours a better place for ALL its inhabitants. May he rest in peace and my condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.

Try and try again
At least California has been making efforts to reduce dependency on oil for years. This is more than can be said for Washington DC, where the politicians have been bought and sold by the oil industry - just look at your president and his administration. So keep on trying, California, maybe one day there will be a successful outcome... but Arnie - show a good example and start the ball rolling by getting rid of your Hummer and banning them from the streets.
