    Not seeing the picture

As with everything, you miss a big point.  Most of the largest farmers are parents, sons, daughters and other relatives.  If you search the govt payments, you see that they can easily exceed the limits by placing some land in each different person's name.  Who says they can't have 5 different LLC?  I look up the payment recipents from different areas of the country I know and see lots of husbands getting large payments, then the wife with large payments.  You may love Sen Grassley, but he knows where his son gets his money, from the mailbox. On Call your senator today posted 2 years ago 4 Responses

    Too Simplified

You make some very good points, but you miss many.  You fail to point out that our state universities had a lot to do with the failure of farming in Iowa.  The universities pushed for decades to have farmers specialize in one major area of production. On As food series ends, the story is just beginning posted 2 years, 1 month ago 6 Responses

    Iowa

It sure is good to see Tom out spreading the word.  I still am waiting for the proof of the waste flowing from the hog farms into the streams.  Having lived here my whole life, and went to college here, outsiders, as that is what we call people who like to come in and tell us what is wrong with us, miss the point.  Lots of the problems today started decades ago.  In the 70's and 80's, farmers were all told to focus on one thing.  The colleges and the BANKERS said you can't do everything, just do one.  It may have been raising chickens, farrowing pigs, feeding pigs, but the problems were not created by us.  If you did not do what the all KNOWING BANKERS and college professionals, you did not get money.  When things fell apart in the 80's, no one wanted to help but the big corporations.  I don't care for them either, as I raise all my own food, but those farmers had families to feed.  The arguments that you make against the big hog companies could be made about car manufaturers, drug companies, clothes makers, etc.  Tom, why don't you stay home, and let the rest of us find our own happiness, instead of pointing out our problems. On In the farm belt, a look at the extremes of agricultural production posted 2 years, 1 month ago 5 Responses

    Grow up

As the famous announcer, at least in Iowa, I love it, I love it, I love it, Jim Zable, announcer for the Iowa Hawkeyes.  You know the place.  The one with the SUPPOSED polluted rivers, thou never proven.  If you don't like what is offered, make your own lunches.  GROW UP.  Take some responsiblity.   Make your kids their lunch and you never have to worry about what they are eating or what the costs are.  Seems like a simple answer to me.On Time to reinvest in the school-lunch program posted 2 years, 1 month ago 9 Responses

    Hardin Co. Manure spills

Manure spills are hardly a rare thing in Hardin County-where is the proof?  Not on the DNR site.
