well
I think we need to get away from the overly human centered argument - to make the case that it is the health of the entire system which we depend on at stake and not just 'us'. For instance we know the corral reefs are crashing. We may be able to adapt to warmer weather as conscious beings, but the reefs will not be able to adapt in time. The ability of the ocean to feed us is dependent on that particular link. These chain of dependancy arguments are often only hinted at but not made concretely.
Who cares if there are 80% less butterflies in Mexico in this years migration, we can live without em - and besides I like sunshine!
Well - YOU need to care because you can't in fact live without the butterflies and bees. They are the reason you have fruits and vegetables on your table...that, and the migrant farm workers whose problems you would prefer to ignore....
We may be able to adapt...in fact we have no choice. We will either adapt with wisdom and foresite - or on an emergency basis creating massive social disruption.
We have the possibility now of adapting gracefully .On Taking on the latest argument from climate do-nothings posted 3 years, 6 months ago 5 Responses

the day is here
"During our great depression people stood in bread lines, they didn't roam the countryside raping and pillaging."
9 out of 10 global conflicts (and by this I mean people coming to your house and killing you and all your children) are not interstate political struggles but intrastate resource struggles.
The day is here. Not at your doorstep, but for much of the world - the day is here.On Peak oil: catastrophic or merely unpleasant? posted 3 years, 7 months ago 13 Responses

apologies
perhaps that phrasing was a little harsh. I know you mean well. But I am dismayed by the emphasis on enviro activism through purchasing private automobiles.
40 ain't near good enough- sadly. And it's these things that are getting all the hype. Where is the discussion of building and rebuilding transportation infrastructure, making life choices like moving closer to work, telecommuting...
I just see so much of the media hyper focusing on private vehicles as being sustainable...when in fact they are not.
So again - sorry for the phrasing. On Current TV: Make your own Yaris TV ad, and more posted 3 years, 7 months ago 3 Responses
