  Your point is well taken. In fact, when I wrote my comment about bikes (with a hat tip to Kevin Costner's movie, Field of Dreams), I was also thinking about my mother, who is currently in a wheelchair. She would love to have miles and miles of smooth pavement to wheel around on.  

  One good bike-transportation solution to have, when one needs or prefers someone else to do the pedaling, is a cycle rickshaw.  I've ridden in one, in Singapore, and highly recommend it.

  Just think, the sooner Peak Oil hits, the sooner all those miles and miles of fresh pavement will become great bike paths!

  circuit breaker

  If you used the circuit breaker, you'd definitely want to keep the fridge running, though. Plus, you'd need to make sure that your other major appliances were already turned off so that you wouldn't have a power surge when the circuit was switched back on.

  It would be good to know if the "universal power-off switch," that Clark's talking about, avoids surges like that.On How lazy people can conserve energy posted 2 years, 3 months ago 4 Responses
