  That's where all the jobs went. Let the Mexican Government bail them out. If we bail them out, they will restructure and close U.S. factories and use our money to build new factories in Mexico.   One foot in the grave.

  Having children is a natural process. We are all hardwired to reproduce, as with all species on this planet it is our primary function and to deny this is to lie to ones self. Social engineering of our society has failed time and again. Western society is already out of balance with an aging population. Look around you, in any room there are fewer and fewer children and all one sees are gray hairs. I grew up as a baby boomer and children were everywhere, there was joy in family life and today we have become a bunch of old farts sitting around on our scooters worrying about making it to the early bird special and our hip replacements. This social decline is what will destroy the human race not children. Too many resources going to support a non producing population, no other species survives like this and we can't either.

  So all you social engineers out there I suggest that you start at the top and find a way to solve the real problem, which is an aging population and change the population ratios, our pyramid is up side down and too few young people will be pulled down by the too many old people. Get real no other species has this problem.

  Suggestion: Let's fight all our wars with the old people, since they are the ones that voted these idiots in to office. This will "kill "two birds with one stone. Children are the future. On Umbra on small steps with big impacts posted 1 year, 1 month ago 18 Responses

  Call me a worshiper of Knowledge

  Increasing knowledge is never useless.  Forest-science Professor Beverly Law has taken a postulate and through the scientific process (please refer to high school science books on how one follows basic research procedures) gathered data and analyzed this data, arriving at a conclusion. She presents this data and conclusions in a respected and peer reviewed journal for others to read and duplicate.  Now this is not as sexy as the procedure you recommended, "common sense, wisdom, and value judgments", but it is far more accurate. Let us not forget that we have just come through almost eight years of George Bush science and I prefer Professor Laws' methods over Georges' wisdom and value judgments

  Science does not take sides.  Science presents facts. Facts can not be changed they can only be lied about. How the logging industry may have used the study if the results had been different is not a good reason to remain ignorant. Only a few hundred years ago we thought that the Earth was flat and that the Sun revolved around the Earth. Science is just another tool in our tool box. Science has given us knowledge that we can use to improve ourselves. The way we have used that knowledge is where the fault lies, not with the science. This constant bashing of science shows a complete lack of understanding of the role that science plays in the Human equation. Making science the scrape goat for Humanity's poor social performance is a misrepresentation of the facts. Your fight is with the politicians not the scientists.
