I agree with Joel on a lot of points. I like to think of Mr. Salatin as Michael Pollan with boxing gloves on. I don't want to see the USDA or FDA eliminated, because that would not solve anything, but I really wish that the industry lobbyists would be barred from Washington, DC, because our decision makers tend to listen to them more than to their own citizens. Of course, they have way more money than any of us have and as the saying goes, "Money talks." But is the lobbying bullsh*ters would be forced to walk, I would be much happier. Then we would finally be closer to having a country made for and run by the people, which is what our founding fathers tried to make it.On I drink raw milk (sold illegally on the underground market) posted 2 days, 3 hours ago 26 ResponsesClick here to view comment in original post
I really have hope that Tester will act for the environment. As an organic farmer, he already is invested in the environment and will do what is right. I have faith in Tester. On Jon Tester (D-Mont.) posted 2 days, 3 hours ago 1 ResponseClick here to view comment in original post
I really became interested in this subject after watching Morgan Spurlock's "Super Size Me" and even more so after reading his book "Don't Eat This Book" and I still do not eat "fast food" after watching this film. In my opinion, it should be re-named "fat food". Check this movie out at your local library if they have it, or borrow it through inter-library loan. It will open your eyes.On Scientists claim junk food is as addictive as heroin posted 1 week, 2 days ago 18 ResponsesClick here to view comment in original post
If he is the next Upton Sinclair then what a better compliment. I just hope that his books have the same impact as The Jungle did on changing the food system. Lord knows it sure is broken. On Big Ag's odd obsession with You-Know-Who posted 3 weeks, 3 days ago 4 ResponsesClick here to view comment in original post
I heard at a recent conference which Tim LaSalle from Rodale Institute was a keynote speaker that the diameter of the pig weed is over 3 inches across and that the thickness of the stem was actually breaking the farming equipment. And Monsanto blames the farmers that is so typical. I can't wait to see the results of the anti-trust hearings. If Monsanto hasn't already bought the investigators, it should be very telling on their business practices. On The chemical treadmill breaks down and the superweeds did it posted 3 weeks, 3 days ago 6 Responses
