The Daily Show's Lewis Black on Earth Day and Kids 0
Posted 7 months agoLewis Black deconstructed Earth Day children's programming on last night's The Daily Show, including a great jab at actor / MTV Cribs balla' Wilmer Valderrama.

The Day the Earth Stood Still trailer 0
Posted 12 months agoCool trailer. The Day the Earth Stood Still is one of the better disaster movies to come out this year. Keanu Reeves' cold logic about solving Earth's problems is bone-chilling.

The following is a segment from the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's program "Marketplace," back in 1978. To repeat: Nineteen. Seventy. Eight.

A quick history of N.Y.'s incoming governor David Paterson and his environmental record 7

David Paterson. It's official. Spitzer's splitting because of his loose zipper. Lt. Gov. David Paterson has been given an unexpected promotion. Now that we know what is going to happen with the personnel shift, people are scrambling to gauge how this new governor will deal with ongoing issues in the Empire State, a state that is third largest in both population and economy.

Wal-Mart discontinues selling green PC in stores 9
Posted 1 year, 8 months agoRemember the gPC? It's Everex's $199 "green" Linux computer, the one Wal-Mart stocked up on during the last holiday season. Well, it seems the "experiment" is over, with an unsatisfied Wal-Mart putting those famous price-cutting scissors on their plan to sell the cheap PC in their stores.
According to the AP, Wal-Mart concluded that their middle-American consumer base was not hip to the gPC's Linux-based operating system. However, seeing the appeal of the computer to a more geeky clientele, Wal-Mart will continue to sell it on their website.

Who cares?
Every now and then, the kitchen cabinet at Wired sits down and decides that they really have to tell the world what they think. Although their techno-enhanced absolutionary tone goes beyond cocky, honesty I don't care. If I want to know about the coolest consumer product or some cultural meme that I haven't heard yet, I look to wired. But if I want a real assessment of other issues outside Anime and flat screen displays, I look towards other more dedicated publications. My concern is that every hipster geek throughout the land will not do this, and take every word in this issue as biblical cannon.
Technological determinism is a myth. Problems like climate change gets solved by people using science, pragmatism, and common sense, not by Moore's Law.
