Wow, this guy sounds terrifying. Has President Obama read your article? He should. The CAFO thing in particular is especially frightening. He's a total corporate shill, out to make a buck with no regard for health, animals, workers, etc. We've already gone one Monsanto chronie on the USDA, hopefully they administration will try and even things out.

Great interview. I especially enjoyed Kenner's ideas about hiding the GMO's and cloned animal products from the public. If companies like Monsanto are going to say these are the things that will save the world, why not let the world know that they are in all of the food that we eat. Why not sing their praises from the mountaintops? It is such a strange contradiction, as if deep down they know it's not quite right. I also think it's so important to draw a paralell between the food we eat and healthcare expenses. It's something that people don't think about, "How will this bag of doritos that I eat everyday affect me"? Then when they get sick, they wonder why.

These fruit and veggie carts came out around the same time that Governor Patterson, Mayor Bloomberg and Speaker Quinn announced the Healthy Food/Healthy Communites and FRESH programs. All are aimed to help low-income families in food deserts. While I agree that the veggie cart program alone will not solve the core problem, in conjuction with the larger programs announced recently and the Obamas push towards healthy eating, some positive changes might start getting made. You can read more about FRESH and Healthy Food/ Healthy Communites on the Daily Table - http://www.sustainabletable.org/2009/05/new-york-moves-to-grow-markets-in-food-deserts/.

I'd never heard the term "globesity" before but it makes so much sence. The vast majority if people totally overlook the connection between agriculture, health and climate change and it is hugely important. The more local you eat, the more healthy you eat and the less gas you guzzle. I will definetly adopt the word into my lexicon and would be interested to read the book. -Sophy @ Sustainable Table
