I hope Mr. Simon's comment about avoiding clues to time and place were tongue-in-cheek. Every technology and design element, including particular conformations and breeds of domesticated animals, has an identifiable context. Most obviously, the cars on his freeways date to a particular country and era. Piles of particular kinds of tires accumulate in certain places and at certain times. Parking lot layouts and lighting follow design trends.
