Obama needs convincing on cellulosic ethanol also
Judging by Obama's comments at today's press conference for Salazar and Vilsack, Obama seems to share Chu's faith in cellulosic ethanol. Of course there are some weighty corn-belt politics to the biofuel issue, but I hope it that Chu and Obama will listen to - rather than squelch - debate about cellulosic ethanol. Chu has been a strong proponent, and thus his record on fostering debate has so far been rather bleak. On New energy chief's enthusiasm for cellulosic ethanol makes me uncomfortable posted 11 months, 2 weeks ago 61 Responses

controversy over Helios Project
Thanks for the story. At Berkeley, there has been considerable controversy over both the process and content of the Helios Project. The StopBp-Berkeley folks have a website with a fairly comprehensive archive of media articles on the issue (until this year).
The project was rushed through with little public consultation, and violated certain rules governing academic appointments. While BP was putting together this project, it was also pushing with $3 million against a CA initiative that would use gas taxes for sustainable PUBLIC financing of alternative energy research. And it was investing in tar sands projects. This is all relevant, because Chu sincerely believes in that the climate change crisis has made BP turn green, and makes it imperative to work hand in hand with corporations like BP.On New energy chief's enthusiasm for cellulosic ethanol makes me uncomfortable posted 11 months, 2 weeks ago 61 Responses
