    A Van Fan !

Ah, my fellow cynical greenies! Time to inject some faith! We've been down so long, we don't know which way is up. If Obama appoints an "insider" we will be harping about that!
So let's rejoice in Obama's choice!  Van will stay true to his convictions in Washington, and we will be back here in our communities to support his work and carry on because his creative energies are ours now! Let's roll up our sleeves; it's going to be a long, arduous , bumpy, but great ride.On Rumor has it Obama will tap Van Jones as his green jobs czar posted 8 months, 3 weeks ago 3 Responses

    Jane from Vallejo

    Dear Umbra,
Not to worry, Jane IS a serious composter; she has been training the rest of us in the community for many years without a lot of fanfare, credit or monetary remuneration.

So thanks Jan and Umbra for all your good work.  On Umbra on composting tainted food posted 9 months, 3 weeks ago 7 Responses

    Alcohol Can Be a Gas!

    Dear Umbra,
I would like to recommend the book, Alcohol Can Be a Gas!, Fueling an Ethanol Revolution for the 21st Century by David Blume, a Mother Earth News Book.
Introduction: "With alcohol fuel, you can become energy-independent, reverse global warming and survive peak oil in style.  Alcohol fuel is "liquid sunshine" and can't be controlled by transnational corporations.  You can produce alcohol from a wide variety of plants and waste products, from algae to stale donuts.  It's a much better fuel than gasoline, and you can use it in your car, right now.  You can even use alcohol to generate your electricity.  Alcohol fuel production is ecologically sustainable, revitalizes farms and communities, and creates huge new opportunities for small-scale businesses.  Its byproducts are clean and valuable. Alcohol has a proud history and a vital future."

If you happen to read it, I would appreciate your valued opinion about it.
