room for improvement
I'm a daily bike commuter in SF and I agree that compared to other places things are pretty good here. I still think there is a lot of room for improvement though. I read the article in NYT on Portland and was struck by one difference - which was that the City was actively promoting bike-related businesses - as far as I know SF is doing nothing along those lines.
