Dear Umbra's Mom, I did see the plastic bag suggestion, but I've taken her previous advice and use reusable cloth bags so I don't have any, and the cheapo plastic ones - I don't know how BlueskyKate does it ... short hair? - are too small and disposable (wasteful - same reason for the plastic grocery bags). I guess someone who's still dyeing their hair on a monthly basis wouldn't get the idea that switching out one type of wastefulness for another isn't really a solution, it's just another problem. However, sewing my own durable one from the fabric that Umbra suggested is an idea inspired by her, so that's why I thanked her. Maybe you should check the archives in regard to the environmental/health impact of hair dyes! Good luck with that. I hope you're not living upstream from me.On Ask Umbra on shower caps, computers, and junk mail posted 2 days ago 19 ResponsesClick here to view comment in original post
Re: the silk and/or cotton shower caps. If only there was one available for actual purchase from somewhere on the internet. The only one I found that does not have a vinyl liner had to be purchased on ebay from a seller in China! What's the impact of shipping me a shower cap from China?!? Hardly worth the effort. I guess I need to start looking for shower caps sewing patterns and also start buttering up the neighbor who sews! Uh, thanks Umbra. I guess. On Ask Umbra on shower caps, computers, and junk mail posted 2 days, 15 hours ago 19 ResponsesClick here to view comment in original post
Well, I guess for now we just wait until 2011, and then the Kleenex boycott can end. It'll be here before we know it. Progess, not perfection, is probably the best we can hope for. I hope the forests can withstand it until then.
