Thnks fr th GHGs

What will be the fallout from Pete Wentz and Co.'s green-themed flight to Antarctica? Tons of carbon, a Guinness record -- and, quite possibly, emo copypenguins.

Against the grain

Young McHipster has a farm, e-i-e-i-o. And on her farm, she has organic produce, e-i-e-i-o. With a CSA here, and a trucker hat there, here a market, there a Pabst, everywhere an urbanite. Young McHipster has a farm, e-i-e-i-o!

Go balls out

Hey, manly men: If you're planning a trip to "snip city," do it now so you can watch the NCAA tourney while you rebound. Because when it comes to population control, the balls are in your court ... but not for long.

Pete Wentz

is very cute.  And apparently he is just another victim of our society's homophobia.  Sexuality and sexual expression are private matters, intended for affection between mature, caring human beings; "sexual orientation" is a silly, restrictive modern construct.  To insist on identifying Pete as gay, or bi, or straight, is to miss the point.  He has presumably played around with boys as well as girls -- and why not?  Currently, he seems to have got together with a girl, whom he likes a lot: so Mazel Tov!  And if that is in fact sincerely a relationship of his free choice, then gay men are unfair to call him a liar or a traitor.  But by the same token, Pete is not helping anybody by seeming to insist, "I am not gay!," as though by not being gay, he is entitled to join the cool kids, who are of course by definition all "straight" -- that obnoxious term.

As for the penguins: Well, on the surface, this business about performing on all seven continents within a certain period of time looks like a gimmick.  But who knows, some good may come of it.  Unclear to me thus far is the nature of the collaboration with Greenpeace.

Chickens deserve our true friendship! So do fish! So do other sentient beings! Let us learn to be kind.

"I bee hidingz"

Graduate students in linguistics departments everywhere, in search of dissertation topics, will be drooling.

We must remember in Gristmill henceforth always to refer to our neighbors to the north as "the Canadas."

Chickens deserve our true friendship! So do fish! So do other sentient beings! Let us learn to be kind.

Now who's 'aving a larf?'

'What will be the fallout?'

Let's see...

'...the band will board a private jet...' as the first line in the PR seems to set it up.

Kinda compounded, if explained by '...MTV News will be with the band every step of the way..'

But it's OK, because 'This certainly outdoes last February's FOB stunt, Infinity Flight 206...'

Boggling the mind, mind, is that this is billed as '..teaming up with Greenpeace for the concert, in the hopes of raising awareness about global warming.'

Know what? I think folk may be pretty 'aware' about Probably Man Worsened Climate Change (Global warming is, so like, last year... if not plain inaccurate) by now, but celebs and eco-elites and rating-priority media swanning about in jets to do it all may well be the bigger message that gets sent around the world, and hence again give cause to ponder the value of many self-appointed messengers. And those who give them page space. Like us. Funny old word, eh?

Do before you talk. Then share. If it's also fun and inspiring, people will want to read more. They may even be inspired follow your example.
