With a name like New Grist ...

Grist staffers sample organic beer variety pack 2

You can't go wrong. Last week, an unusually heavy box made its way to Grist List HQ, and we were oh-so-pleasantly surprised to find out that a) Lakefront Brewery had sent us a case of their beer and b) shameless begging really does work. We actually received a variety of brews -- including the New Grist beer that we had oh-so-subtly requested as well as an organic variety called Organic ESB and the coffee-blended Fuel Cafe Stout.

At a Seattle-staff gathering on Friday, we sat down to taste-test these Lakefront Brewery beverages -- and believe me, we took our task seriously. Our verdict? Tasty. Seriously. And not just because Lakefront Brewery sent us a free case. Although Lakefront Brewery did send us a free case. Did I mention Lakefront Brewery sent us a free case?

And that's not to say we wouldn't accept free cases of beer from any other organic brewers out there. Because we would. And we would also accept more free cases from Lakefront Brewery. In fact, I'm just going to say Lakefront Brewery a few more times. Lakefront Brewery. Lakefront Brewery. Lakefront Brewery.

So in conclusion, we'd like to thank you, Lakefront Brewery, for allowing us to sample our namesake beer. You did name it after us, right?

Lakefront rocks!I took the brewery tour at Lakefront last summer, and believe you me, they take beer seriously, and in vast quantities. For about five bucks, you got the tour, a pint glass, and several tokens for beer before, after, and during the tour (god, I love and miss Wisconsin). Supposedly, each token was good for an 8-oz. draft, but most of the barkeeps filled them pretty much full.
How many tokens? There were so many, I don't remember. Four?
If in Milwaukee, don't miss the Lakefront tour, and leave plenty of time afterward to sober up.
They also brew a maple-sweetened root beer.

Grist, a brew like no other...Would that I could be with such luck as Grist that a heavy case of anything organically brewed should land upon my doorstep. Sigh, but I can plainly wish too often that repeatedly stating anything so mainly frontal as Lakefront Brewery over and over might ever be so revered as to have my name upon the label.
Cheers Grist, for sage imparted to us all, if only you could spread such cheer amongst us all (hint). Is my appeal that one day a label be so worded as to say 'See you out there', on my bike of course... but alas, I must be dreaming.
Hark lads and lasses, first be so warned as not to ride with such imbibe that wheels could not go straightly, organically prepared, or not as stately. And either way, by pushing or with pedal I do declare, you will in ways or other, see me out there... I do swear.
