    This turn of events was made for Grist Listin': A suggestion to tear with care made Sheryl Crow the butt of many, many jokes this week. But did you hear how she wiped the smile off rapmaster Rove, tellin' him climate change won't do him good? Talk about a bum-rush.

  2. Mission: Impractical

    Remember when Madonna suggested using magic Kabbalah fluid to clean up nuclear waste? Replace "Madonna" with "Tom Cruise"; "magic Kabbalah fluid" with "magic Scientology saunas"; and "clean up nuclear waste" with "detox 9/11 workers." And yeah, the crazy pretty much stays the same.

    This is Spinal Tap: "They're not that environmentally conscious, but they've heard of global warming. Nigel thought it was just because he was wearing too much clothing -- that if he just took his jacket off it would be cooler." Rock on.

    In an effort to save energy, the Canadian government is urging Canucks to flick off. Quel scandal, eh? Opposition parties are in a flicking tizzy aboot the political potty-mouthing, but find some solace in knowing at least they can work a fax machine.

    Filmmakers hope you'll laugh for 40 days and 40 nights after seeing Steve Carell morph into Noah in Evan Almighty. And with the entire production "going zero" (even the best dolly gaffer grip boy rode a bike on set!), you'll be flooded with self-righteousness too.

    Mission: ImpracticalUnfortunately this is the first time I think I have disagreed with you at Grist.  Upon reading the article about the Detox of 9/11 workers it stated that the ones his group is working with feel much better than previously, so I do not think your remark at end was appropriate. In many cases alternative ideas work as well or better than regular treatments. Had the article stated that the people he was working with were just as bad off, then your attitude would have been appropriate. Instead it has come off like you are following suit with TPTB in order to comply with their truth... I do hope that this was jus a slip based on preconceived ideas force fed in school or maybe a personal dislike for the guy, and not a trend towards following the lead sheep...

    You knew that as soon as she married him she'd leave...just to tear him apart.
    In a way Dyaneticians and Gristers are very much alike.  The guy who writes the skeptics' guide is every bit the downshouter and glazed-eye cultmember.
    I dread a day when someone opening his mouth to controvert the IPCC is rushed off to the Gulag Archipelago.

    Not funny on this oneI love Grist, look forward to everything you send. But this sarcastic take on Tom Cruise's efforts with the 9-11 responders only perpetuates the myth that big medicine/big pharma want us to believe - that nothing natural could possibly work. Go ahead and talk to some of the responders who have been through the program in NYC and they'll tell you they don't care if Genghis Kahn invented it - it works. In fact, it's the only thing that is working for them. Check it out!

    Canada mis-behaving againIn regards to the What the Flick item, you'd think that with all those harp seal pups drowning in the Northwest Atlantic because of loss of ice (well, those that weren't clubbed or shot for their fur), Canadian politicians would be united around saving energy.
