That which cannot be named 1

There must have been a dozen separate speakers at the summit who mentioned the need for long-term extension of the renewable tax credits (PTC and ITC). Every one of them identified it as a necessary and beneficial policy, and just about every one lamented that Congress hadn't done it.

Only one speaker the whole day -- Fred Redmond, VP of the United Steelworkers union -- mentioned the following seemingly salient fact: Senate Republicans have have blocked extension of the tax credits eight times this session.

T. Boone asked earlier, "Why don't they pass it?!" Weird that only Redmond knew the answer to that question.

Not Just RepublicansIf the Democrats really wanted to extend the tax credits, they would have put them into a must-pass bill, like funding for the murdering in Iraq.  As I've said before, it's all about priorities.  Everyone but an extreme psychopath wants clean air & water, and nice natural views, likes animals and pretty plants, etc.  The issue is what priority do you give those things.  The Democrats obviously don't think that extending the tax credits is of any priority, so they pretend to try to pass this legislation while knowing it has no chance.  This is nothing but political grandstanding, not an honest effort to get these credits extended.
