Getting Our Just Deserts

Climate change to cause ‘economic deserts,’ U.N. chief says 1

Parts of the world undergoing severe, sustained drought will likely have to be all but abandoned by humans because water shortages (caused by climate change and overuse of rivers and aquifers) will make them unlivable, the executive director of the United Nations Environment Program warned this week.

The American WestI fear most for places like Albuquerque and Santa Fe, but there are a lot more people at risk in the "greater" Denver area.

Its another example of the intersection of Global Warmng & human short-sightedness. Here in New Orleans we had hurricanes juiced up by warmer sea surface temperatures combined with lousy levees & political misleadership. In  Denver the combining factors are desertification (probably) and the draining of the aquifers while the Rocky Mountain glaciers melt away.

We are so very late getting into action!
