Starbucks will buy 40 million pounds of fair-trade-certified coffee next year, doubling the hill of beans it bought this year and becoming the largest purchaser of fair-trade coffee in the world. The caffeine giant, though struggling financially and recognizing the price premium of sustainable bean-buying, has a goal of selling only "responsibly grown and ethically traded" coffee by 2015.

Thanks, but no thanks, I'll support my local, independently-owned and operated, non-corporate, local-artist-supporting, 100% fair-trade and shade-grown coffeehouse, thank you.
This in spite of the fact that Whorebucks has moved in across the street to try to put our local operator out of business.

Starbucks is working to help coffee growers qualify for the Fair Trade/Organic/Shade grown designation. They are helping bring about change in the industry, so that MORE coffee growers are helped this way.
Starbucks has a plan for how long until ALL their coffee is certified... and it isn't by dumping their current growers, it's by helping those growers better themselves.

"The capitalists will sell you the shovels they bury you with."
As for Starbucks, I prefer to make my coffee at home and am weaning myself off the caffeine habit.
