If you haven't been keeping up: The situation at the South Central Community Farm has gotten even more grim. The farmers have received an eviction order. A variety of celebs and quasi-celebs and hippie ex-celebs have taken up direct action, camping out on the farm. Julia Butterfly Hill is even sitting up in a tree. It's not looking good.
(Meanwhile, the same city that can't cough up $10 million for this community farm is contemplating spending $800 million renovating a sports stadium to attract an NFL team. Awesome.)

The LA Farm, on the other hand, serves as a nasty reminder that people don't have to live that way.
And anyone with a shred of power in the existing system knows that one sleazy developer is worth far more than, what, a mere 350 urban farmers. Who are they more likely to meet at the next cocktail party?
Thanks so much for bringing this to the Gristmill's reading audience.

If our neighbor was spending all of his money on season tickets to football games while his children went hungry?
Hint, that's what we as a society are doing....

We've started a blog to chronicle specific events here on the ground. SavetheGarden will be getting regular updates for the next few days on the current state of the farm and community.
Btw, Alameda and 41st is about as South Central LA as you can get. Since this is also the stage of the LA riots in '92 there are some serious ghosts around the place that have yet to leave.
