Sewage in the kitchen? 2

Well, perhaps just the methane from the sewage, to cook our food.

This vision, swinging dramatically across the olfactory spectrum, is part of sustainability architect William McDonough's plan for seven new Chinese cities. The Chinese government has taken McDonough's book Cradle to Cradle on as policy for what he calls the "Next City." Read more at BBC.

Starting off rightYou're responsible for the design of seven future cities. Your goal: "a safe, healthy, just world, clean air, soil and power, that is elegantly enjoyed."
I think that is a good start.
And for those of you who don't read the BBC article, I wanted to share this bit, which ends the piece: "the Stone Age did not end because humans ran out of stones. It ended because it was time for a re-think about how we live."
    Nicely put.

On the right trackMcDonough's on the right track. I think we need more engineers and architects to start viewing sustainability not as a secondary agenda, but as a priority! Sustainable urban planning provides for open space and existence of wilderness areas for us all to enjoy. Thanks Bill for working in the right direction. Let's make it a priority that all future engineers be required to study engineering and planning in an environmentally conscious and forward-looking manner.
