   good riddanceAs I said before, Rick Santorum is the most disgraceful legislator that my home state of PA ever sent to DC.  And it has been all the more painful to me that he is Catholic, and Italian-American (I believe; the name is an unusual Latinate form), and a leading homophobe.
   So where does he go from here?  I could not believe Bill Bennett, talking to Anderson Cooper, actually referring seriously to David Brooks's astounding op-ed in which he, Brooks, glorified Santorum as an international hero, and asserting that he will be a favorite presidential candidate of far-right conservatives in 2008.
   (A little secret, though: as a rule, I do not vote for Italian-Americans.  I do not trust them.)
   
   What am I doing, in the same country with these people?
   OK, I know, I should not worry about that right now, I should just be thankful for what this night has given.  On the Italian-American front, one should observe that not only is Nancy Pelosi the first woman to be Speaker of the House, but she is also the first Italian-American in that position, and the highest-placed Italian-American elected office-holder in American history.
   
   Chickens are our cousins!
   
   So are other sensitive animals!
   
   Enough is enough!
   
   No more factory farms!
