Climate skeptics love citing MIT prof Richard Lindzen, probably because, well, there aren't many other semi-legitimate skeptics left to cite. (And how many of the dead enders can bamboozle their way into Newsweek?)
But lately, it seems like Lindzen is more and more openly losing his cool. A quick survey of today's news, for instance, unearths two deeply wackadoo quotes.
First, Lindzen tells the BBC that Exxon-Mobil is "the only principled oil and gas company I know in the US."
OK, put aside for a moment the question of what "principle" mandates the rejection of mainstream science. Put aside the question of what it would even mean to be a "principled oil and gas company." Put aside the fact that the company now claims to accept that anthropogenic global warming is a danger that needs to be addressed, and thus has abandoned whatever "principle" was standing in its way.
Wait, no, I can't put all that aside. WTF?
Second, there's this gem from a Lindzen interview in the rightwing rag National Post:
Q ... On a recent Grade 7 test my daughter was asked something to the effect of, "How are you going to educate your parents about global warming?"
A I know. It's straight out of Hitlerjugend.
Yes, asking middle schoolers about global warming is exactly like training a nation's youth to exterminate Jews! Why, the parallel couldn't be more clear! If you're around the fracking bend, anyway.
Lindzen is ubiquitous in the media, so I'm sure a scan of any given day's news will turn up fruitloopitude of the same caliber. Something to keep in mind the next time your neighborhood flat earther cites Lindzen as an authority.

How about a company that produces and supplies a widely desired product at the market price?
Do you not use oil and gas, David Roberts? Yes, of course you do. So do not admonish Exxon for selling the product you desire and need in order to go about your decadent western life. You're just as guilty as Exxon is.
Please keep your hypocrisy to a minimum, if at all possible.

- That would also be your defence for kiddy porn too I suppose? Please get real. Exxon has had ever opportunity to invest it's vast profits in energy products OTHER than oil and gas production.
I note that since the major oil companies are awash in cash they are neither investing in oil production OR alternative energy production. I expect the cash will vanish ala Enron in a series on bad purchases of straw companies.
Hopefully there will be some Exxon executives around to hang in ten years or so when we are really feeling the pain. Practice that knotwork boys; it always did me good as a scout.

Please try and be at least a little bit honest. If Exxon were not supplying oil and gas to the world, there are plenty of other companies who are more than willing to do so. They exist purely because of YOUR and my and David Robert's desire to live a decadant western lifestyle full of lots of heat, air-conditioning, driving around, and flying. These companies are only satisfying the market. You are just as guilty as anyone, so get off your high horse. Maybe we should hang you instead of hanging Exxon executives.

Probably not. He seems to be shameless. But Bill Gray did seem to realize he'd gone too far when he compared Al Gore to Adolf Hitler. Or so I assume, because I haven't heard much from him lately.

As far as Richard Lindzen goes, how he gets in Newsweek or any thing else for that matter is beyond me. As the media shifts left, any doubters to a left's agenda get left at the curb.
Study the charts from the IPCC. Read some other opinions. Educate yourself with tools so you can judge for yourself. Money drives most everything, and this "Global Warming" push is the same. Power is the fuel behind the money, and just look at the power and money behind this crazyness.
No one doubts the Earth is getting warmer. What some of us doubt is how it is happening. And I find it hard to believe that changing our light bulbs to CFL's are going to fix it. I think the Earth, it's place in the solar system, the galaxy, and the universe, play a part that we simply do not understand.

Sorry y'all live in a mad house.
Look to your feet for help, cause the controllers and the knowledgeable of this world are just not there.

It's in plastics, and the asphalt road you drive on, or ride your bike on or what ever you greenies do. It's in your sneaker soles. It's in the lubricant that turns the blades on a wind farm.
And how much of that cannot be subsituted with a biomass or industrial recycling alternative?
Surely some of it, especially when it comes to medical and military applications.
But most of it's unnecisary.

Our evil plan
is to become
famous Science Idols
(nearly Gods to some).
They'll tremble at our Holy words
and bow to our computer model-
the forecast is revenge for nerds.
With complex weather simulations
and communist Hollywood affiliations,
we'll teach them all to worship Gaia
by quoting from our sacred data.
We'll tax them till they're weakest
let them shiver in the dark;
give back their land to wild beastes,
plant flowers in the park.
We'll take away their market shares
and limit their emissions;
just to save the polar bears
from our doomsday visions.
We'll strangle the economy
with sensless regulation;
deny them their progeny
with compulsory castration.
We'll take away their cars and trucks
and make them ride the bus;
then they'll see how much it sucks,
being puny wimps like us.
Across the land they'll sacrifice
all comfort and prosperity;
the footprint of both men and mice
will be too small to see.
So raise your glass of organic beer-
'to global doom and destruction'
may it be ever near!
