I can't believeno one asked what my first favorite movie of all time is. How am I supposed to parade my fine taste and erudition if nobody takes the grossly overt bait?!

I used "Network's" most famous quote here, I did not read this article first.  Spooky.

OK, OK!I'll tell you! Now quit badgering me. ;)
I'm afraid your guesses are wrong (though I am a big Strangelove fan). My favorite is Miller's Crossing, by the irreplaceable Coen brothers.
This is where Big Lebowski partisans jump in to scold me that The Dude is the Coens' masterpiece. I've had this argument many times, even to the point of family strife. I won't rehash it here. I'll just say that while Lebowski is my No. 3, I don't think any film will ever top this exchange: Verna: What're you chewin' over?
Tom Reagan: Dream I had once. I was walkin' in the woods, I don't know why. Wind came up and blew me hat off.
Verna: And you chased it, right? You ran and ran, finally caught up to it and you picked it up. But it wasn't a hat anymore and it changed into something else, something wonderful.
Tom Reagan: Nah, it stayed a hat and no, I didn't chase it. Nothing more foolish than a man chasin' his hat.

If Only ..."Network" could have inspired the revolt in reality that the main character did in the movie.  Great movie about how fundamentally corrupt our government is and about how the corporate media play a part in that corruption.  However, it didn't make as big an impression on me as my faves, Apocolypse Now and Lord of the Rings.
