Brilliant! Her energy plan is unintentionally brilliant.  The plugin hybrids will reduce oil consumption (before drilling ever provides anything), so that as new oil finally comes up (first from already leased areas, under reregulated and enforced scrutiny), in 10 years.  It can yeild all the oil we need.
The amount of oil used reduced to 10% of presnt use, the reserves saved all over the US will provide enough fuel until there is no need for it at all, transitioning to all electric over the next 10 years.  Even though those reserves are small compared to the middle east, we will have energy security.
The conservation of plugins will reduce demand to preserve the oil we have.  No need for fuel farming or liquid fuel from coal or trees.

Gotta love itBest line:  "I'll see you at the debates, bitches!"
Best thing about the ad:  her referring to McCain as "wrinkly white-haired guy."
So great that this is going viral.  The kids need to be engaged.  You know how they'll vote, so long as we can get them to the polls...

    Paris RespondsGreat!!
Paris Hilton, erstwhile Bimba (I reserver "Bimbo" for males, following the Spanish language protocols) has shown more sense than Nancy Pelosi and her supporters in Congress, more sense even than Barak Obama. It's a great compromise. Expand drilling now (and I do believe the oil will come through earlier, not later) thereby lowering prices and giving us a bridge to make it to the time when we'll be using alternative fuels. Make sure there is strict environmental oversight, while giving companies tax-breaks to develop those alternatives.
    Again, brilliant.

Pinger, you must be a baby-boomer...You've got some old ideas there.  Let's drill until we have hybrid cars.  And then, lets transition to clean coal while we're waiting for plug-in cars.  And maybe we can build a hundred new nuke plants while we're waiting for solar panels.  Look, old folks...we never asked for all your shit.  We don't want your big rediculous 4,000 foot homes, your millions of cars, your long commutes, your fast food, or any of the other crap that sucks down tons of juice.  In fact, everything you old people have been working towards is a big lie.  Tell me why the hell you're working more hours than your parents did when we've got all of these "labor-saving" devices now.  I'll tell you why, it's because you've got three times as much crap as they did.
Pinger, let me clarify the expectations of younger generations so you can understand what we want from the world:  I want to live in a very small, economical home, eat healthy food, have a decent quality of life and only have to work 20 hours a week to support it.  Of course, if I go for the bigger house, I'll have to work 30 hours a week.  With a nice big car, I'll have to work 40 hours a week.  And unless we can end your build-up of nuclear weapson and oil wars, I guess I'll have to work 50 or 60 hours a week just to keep up with the taxes.  Although your money-worshipping lifestyle is tempting...I think I'll pass.  And I think a lot of other folks are getting fed up with your ideas as well.  Offshore drilling might do something for Exxon but it will do nothing to improve our lives or make us happier.  We've only got 100 years or so on this planet and we shouldn't spend all of it trying to amass wealth.  I repeat...we don't want your oil.

john former marineThere is a small hitch in your theory. It is that American society is not equal.
All things being equal, you should work less and less.  And with increases in efficiency, you should consume less and less energy. But the hitch is that all things are not equal.
The top 1% of the American consumers consume 50% of all resources. Paris Hilton is just one of these precious people who burn the earth with smug smiles over the face.
If you reduce the production of energy, it will be the poorest who are going to suffer blackouts.
The rich will keep their divine right to first access to any resource. And they will use it as much as they would like it. The sacrifices that the rest of the people make, will not help in reducing their work hours or in saving the planet. You should be very gullible to think like that.

Sorry pingThat oil from new areas won't start flowing in signifigant amounts for 10 years.  The plugins are the bridge.
But Paris does have a good plan, she just got that part backwards.  No problem.  And Barack is for more drilling too, but drill the leases big oil already has first.
The push to get their hands on those leases innediately is just more McBush big oil monopoly gaming.  And political diversion from real solutions, like plugin hybrids.
Paris should not be called tabloid names anymore, she's much better informed on energy policy  than most of our leadership.

Vakibs, I think you missed JFM's point...I don't think JFM would argue that the richer, and perhaps more cut throat, members of our society will always enjoy more access to resources.  I think what he was saying is that a simpler life is more enjoyable.  I think it would just as naive to think that you can't live a full life without working as much as everyone else, using as much energy and resources.  There can't be any brown outs if you're not on the grid...
