Congress to vote on clearing way for road through remote wildlife refuge 1

Congress is expected to vote this month on a potentially precedent-setting land swap that would clear the way for a road through Izembek National Wildlife Refuge in southwestern Alaska. Locals say the road's main purpose would be to help evacuate sick people during bad weather, but environmentalists and others suspect the move is an attempt to lay the groundwork for oil and gas development in the area.

No roads in the wildernessPerhaps congress will take the cue from the new president-elect who will NOT be drilling in the wilderness and defeat this really bad idea to build a road through the wilderness. Emergency evacuations have been taking place by plane in the Alaska wilderness for a long time. It is probably a much faster, safer way to evacuate people anyway. Give me a break.
