   Screw Energy IndependenceThis is just more nationalistic crap, like jerks who chant "U.S.A."  And it's not even real, as some posters here have pointed out.  Oil goes into an international market.  Finally, those like Palin calling for energy independence just want to destroy the U.S. environment in order to get the oil (which is admittedly morally superior to destroying other people's environment for your oil).
   What's needed is a major reduction in consumption, and that's how it needs to be framed.  We need a president with the guts and integrity to call on Americans to begin sacrificing for the good of their planet.  Any less will accomplish nothing significant.
