"And we ought to declare that we will be free of energy consumption in this country within a decade, bold as that is."
-- Mike Huckabee, Republican presidential candidate, 10 Dec. 2007
[UPDATE: It appears Huckabee was misquoted in an early draft of the transcript. His quote now reads, "And we ought to declare that we will be oil free of energy consumption in this country within a decade, bold as that is." That doesn't make a ton of sense either, but at least it's a little more clear what he's getting at. He wants to eliminate our use of oil entirely. Nuts, but not as nuts as eliminating energy consumption altogether!]

If the federal government is truly serious about doing something with the AIDS virus, we need to take steps that would isolate the carriers of this plague. (Emphasis mine)
I feel homosexuality is an aberrant, unnatural, and sinful lifestyle, and we now know it can pose a dangerous public health risk.
And let's not forget about that time when, as governor of Arkansas, he released a serial rapist from prison, despite pleas from victims' families, only to have the man go out and rape/murder again!
Sigh...Bigotry. Ignorance. Fear-mongering. Utter lack of compassion. Now THOSE are the qualities I'm looking for in a president.

I can't wait to hear him try to dance his way out of this one.

... at a more recent debate, when he was asked by Wolf Blitzer if the creation of the Earth occurred six thousand years ago and only took six days, as stated in the Old Testament, Huckabee said, "I don't know. I wasn't there."
