Netroots Nation: night one

Clark and Dean pump up a crowd that’s a little less giddy 2

Netroots Nation

I'm at Netroots Nation, watching speeches from Wesley Clark and Howard Dean. I must say -- not to be a downer -- that I don't feel the same sense of giddy excitement in the room this year. There's less of a sense of "wow, we matter!" and more of a sense of, "hm, what now?" Being inside the political economy is a lot more complicated than being agitators outside of it. The novelty is gone; now it's a matter of coordinating and power brokering.

I know Kate already mentioned this, but I'll be on a panel tomorrow at 1:30: "Debunking the Issue Silo Myth: Why the Broader Progressive Movement is Green." If you'd like to watch it live, check out ustream.tv. All the videos will be archived, um, somewhere afterward as well. I'll let you know.

Hunter from DailyKoswrote something almost exactly the same: http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/7/17/175641/025
We need to find some hybrid system where we can use the power of the netroots to supportively hold politicians accountable. Maybe some such solution shall emerge from Netroots Nation?
