Make your own Chevy Tahoe commercial 47

Check this out: Chevrolet has a site up where you can design your own commercial for the Chevy Tahoe. As Kevin Drum says, this one is probably not long for this world, so watch it while you can.

Here's my commercial:

Hey, 2,325 U.S. kids have died, 16,653 have been injured, and up to $2 trillion will be spent to keep our oil supply safe. If you support the troops you'll get out there and use some of it! Chevy Tahoe: Don't let all that blood go to waste.

Aw, looks like they pulled the plug already

I mailed a movie to myself but it has never arrived...shame, my sarcasm was overflowing. Hard to believe they could be this near-sighted. Imagine all of the ads trashing this particular SUV that would be flying around the net if they did not pull the plug... a PR disaster. This idea is a good example of why they are in such deep shit right now. I also fully expect to see Tahoe spam showing up any day now, how very brilliant of them.

    Chevy Carnival

Let's make this more viral :) I posted an entry with the idea of starting a 'Chevy Carnival'. People who see the list of links on that entry (all related to activism/environment of course) should add a post on their website listing the links and adding theirs to the list.

It can also start from here, doesn't matter, just add the other links I found on Network-Centric Advocacy. It can be interesting...

Now why can't some web wiz save this on a server somewhere?  I bet someone did.

    More censorships!

I received a couple of e-mails from folks whose commercial has been deleted almost immediately... I don't know what text they put in there, but the pressure on Chevy is raising.

amazingdrx: some are already saving them for YouTube (check Network as Advicacy's site), but the idea I had is to keep records everywhere of how many people are concerned about the issue and give maximum credit to their creations (if they are still there). Go ahead and host the carnival on your site too :)

    Apprently, industries love this idea

A friend who edits a major national advertising trade magazine told me that all sorts of companies are chomping at the bit to try out this type of marketing. Along with Chevy, Mastercard is pretty hot to trot too.

He says the concept is that by "interacting" more closely with their products, a relationship will be built between consumers and the company.

Which, if you think about it, makes sense. If those of us who are making the above-linked videos weren't green minded and thoughtful, but still interested in screwing around with the technology or looking at pretty pictures of cars, Chevy would have had all of us staring at their products (not to mention thier logos) for free. Add to that the "cool" commercials some are making and sending to their friends and you have a lot of viral marketing going on.

It's a sad thing, but let's remember that most people in this country aren't conscious of global warming or anything outside of themselves and their little worlds and are willing to do anything that looks like it might be fun on the Web. So all Chevy has to do is post this site, get the word out on a few choice Car-oriented bulliten boards and bam! you've got Chevy commercials being made for free and emailed around the Web. Pay one guy to watch for anything anti-chevy and to remove as fast as possible and it's probably worth it.

Pathetic, huh? (maybe one of us should get hired as the person who watches for anti-chevy stuff!)

    the fine print

There's always something nasty in those contest rules:

"An Entry which in the sole discretion of the judges is . . . not in keeping with the image of the Sponsors will be disqualified."

(I imagine we're giving the image monitors some headaches, though.)

    "Crew menmbers on spaceship earth.."

    Great quote!

Actually I was wondering, couldn't one take any commercial and do this process?  Hmmmm...

...kind of similar to the idea of breaking into network audio feed to put alternative messages on commercials, but less illegal?  Hehehey.

    Chevy Tahoe commercial

Such creativity from all of you!  I just discovered that I could easily do corporate satire for a living...

My commercial, "Flower children, eat my dust" is at:

    mysticalfemme@juno.com :)

By the way, I had a problem sending my commercial to myself at another e-mail address.  The problem may be between Chevy's and your e-mail provider, not censorship (at least not yet).  Remember to send it to yourself and others BEFORE submitting it as an entry, or it will be irretrievably gone.
