smileI kept expecting the host (Shepard Smith) to say, "Smile! You're on Candid Camera!" "April Fools!" or something along those lines.
Here's a brief blog post about the segment.

SurrealWow, that was ... unexpected. Not a bad segment either I must say. We'll see if they stick with this new angle they have of "having a clue" =)

SunflowerHow do you survive without broad band? They don't offer DSL out there? A transcript would not do the clip justice.

It's a Murdoch thing. Not Rupert, but James, the son of Rupert and CEO of BSkyB in the UK.
About a month ago Sky News ran a whole week of green articles, including a UK carbon counter. A remarkable thing, and a huge change from the skepticism of previous Murdoch incarnations. The Sun, a News International tabloid in the UK also ran a host of articles on global warming recently.
Fatherly concern for his son's worries? Miracles may be happening as we speak...

interesting but not worthy of kudosIt is interesting that a major right wing propaganda organization has decided to acknowledge the reality of global warming, but note that the lead approach that they advocate is the purchase of carbon offsets.
The basic idea is, somewhat like pollution credits, that you can purchase the right to pollute by paying for a carbon offset somewhere else which may be as inconsequential as an investment in a new power plant that produces 20% less carbon / kwh.
No carbon is removed from the air... rather the growth rate of carbon output is at most slightly slowed.  Murdoch's big industrial friends love this scheme because it means that they (and all of us) can conduct business as usual, and claim some kind of environmental purity.
In fact these schemes are the next big consumer scam in the energy field.
For example here's one such scam:  Native Energy, described here: http://www.documentedlife.com/log/?p=265
There is a certain kind of environmentalist, call it the liberal  business as usual types who think that a little tinkering around the edges, a few "indulgences" purchased from companies like Native Energy and many others, are all that are needed.
Fox and Murdoch are happy to encourage such thinking.   I'm sorry that you fell for this one David.  Look a little more deeply and I think you'll see that carbon offset schemes are closer to scams than serious efforts to address climate change.

And on that same point, read this:http://www.tni.org/detail_pub.phtml?&username=guest@t ...
Fox news is not on your side, and even in its acknowledgment of global warming it is not on the side of Planet Earth.
