Bill to allow new dirty coal plant vetoed by Kansas governor 4

Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius has vetoed a bill that would have allowed a new two-unit coal plant to be built in her state. The legislation would have overturned an October decision by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment to deny Sunflower Electric a coal-plant permit on the basis of greenhouse-gas emissions. The bill Sebelius kicked to the curb would also have stripped the KDHE of the authority to hold power plants to stricter standards than the not-so-strict federal Clean Air Act. "Instead of building two new coal plants, which would produce 11 million new tons of carbon dioxide each year, I support pursuing other, more promising energy and economic development alternatives," Sebelius said, adding with impeccable logic, "Building additional coal plants now is likely to create a significant economic liability for Kansas in the future." Having expected the veto, Kansas legislators will now see if they have enough votes to override it.

What's the Matter with Kansas...Yes, it's hard to believe if you have read the book, "What's the Matter with Kansas", but we do have a Democratic governor who is intelligent and forward thinking. Kudos to Governor Kathleen Sebelius for toeing the line on clean energy for Kansas. The fact that the legislature is trying to over-ride the veto should tell you a bit about what's the matter with Kansas. Now all of us in Kansas who are eco-responsible need to contact our legislators and let them know we support clean energy development. No more fossil fuels in our energy plans please!

Honest cost of wind, coal.Send this to your legilators Kansans.  An update of the graph comparing total power costs of coal, gas, nuclear, and wind from 2004 would show wind is very competitive.  How would fuel cost increases since 2004 shift this picture?  Wildly in favor of wind.
Turn struggling family farms into wind farms with a 10 cent per kwh subsidt direct to farmers.  That's good Kansas energy and ag policy.

From what I've heard......they don't have enough to override it...yet.
    Let's keep it that way!

A Lesson For OthersThe Governor of Kansas ought to try to teach her wisdom to those in Montana that think that a coal fired plant outside Great Falls is a good idea. How can they not know better?
