... knows that the energy bill stinks to high heaven:

President Bush said the other day that he wishes he could wave a magic wand and make gas prices go down. That sounds like a plan that would almost be as effective as his misbegotten, long-languishing energy bill. Bush relentlessly touts the legislation as a potential salve for high gas prices, but it won’t be, because it runs afoul of a force with which Bush should be familiar — the free market.

Other than the part about Bush's purported familiarity with the free market -- what evidence is there of that? -- I basically agree.

    yeah, but ...I'm pretty sure his assertion that natural gas plants (used primarily for peak load times) are an alternative to nuclear power is hogwash. Still, glad to see a broad coalition emerge that wants to kill this thing.
    BTW, the Becker-Posner blog is discussing nuclear power this week.
