   I hate this tooObama's answer that he would target energy as a way to cut spending after promising to invest $150 billion over 10 years was a major downer for me.  I am still for Obama, obviously if you check my Web site, but objectively, that would dampen my enthusiasm for his Presidency.  I think we progressives will find ourselves in the strange position of siding with conservative Republican Congressmen on the small hope that this $700+ bailout does not pass.  The bailout as proposed by Paulson could cripple Obama's Presidency and our long-awaited dreams of clean energy and energy independence.
   If you want clean energy, I think we have to risk the small chance of credit spread spikes in the short term.  Call your Congressmen and tell them NO on the Wall Street bailout.

   Yep DRGood point!  Lehrer played into McCain's spending cut talking point.
   But Obama took advantage of McCain's spending cut rethoric by pointing out the huge debt run up under McCain backed Bush policies.

   Rock Candy Mountain strikes again. The idea that we can somehow produce a balanced budget with either presidential candidates economic plan is laughable.
   The meme "Continue a war but cut spending at home" in order to balance budgets is nuts. A quick glance at your federal budget cut into pie slices will tell you that there isn't enough in the domestic budget after Medicare and Social Security to cut. Throwing more people in the street will only increase the medical load on society because rich people seem to be able to catch diseases from poor people.
   We have to invest in areas where efficiencies are real and returns are real and declare more of the world "somebody else's problem."
   If you're losing blood maybe it's time to get our um, carrot out of the juicer. Close overseas bases, bring the troops home. Declare victory and bug out.
