Emissionary Deal

Utility strikes deal with green groups allowing new coal plants to proceed 6

Luminant, the largest utility in Texas, struck a deal this week with Public Citizen and the Sierra Club in which the company agreed to use "maximum achievable control technology" to ensure the lowest possible emissions of mercury and other pollutants from two new coal-fired generating units now under construction in the state. In exchange, the green groups have agreed not to sue to stop construction of the plants.

CrapCrap is crap! That little snippet of information is full of crap.Maximum achievable control technology! That is double-speak.It means nothing! They will do what they want and say that they are doing the best that they can,but that doesn't keep the environment clean.Since when has business done anything but feed their bottom line?Coal is dirty and there is no current fix that cleans it up significantly. For environmental groups to trust coal to police itself is stupid and criminal. It is like asking congress to police itself or corporate america or the banking industry. It just ain't going to happen!

HELP Stop it!!!!!!!!!They want to build one in my city!!! I don't think we should compromise. I think even the lowest amount of emissions is still too much. I don't understand why we are not using wind power if we are one of the windiest cities in the USA (Corpus Christi, TX)

No SurpriseSad news but not surprising. I'm pretty confident humanity won't learn from it's mistakes unless there is some sort of catastrophic failure.
If, through the hard work of green groups and those concerned for the environment, ew are able to successfully avert a climate catastrophe, it will only enable all the deniers to say, "I told you so" as if we worried for nothing. Those deniers and polluters will keep their polluting ways and history repeats.
On the other hand, if we have a catastrophic failure of the climite system and it's proven to be due to human cause GW, then maybe humanity will learn a hard lesson. But life will suck.

The Sierra Club is cuttin' it's losses......they figured they helped stop TXU from goin' with the full build-out, so in return for the significany cut, they'd lay off the remainder and focus their efforts elsewhere.
    Shame.
