Big, bad John

Texas Sen. John Cornyn hearts drilling and a good brew 4

Okay, so this campaign ad for Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) has nothing to do with the environment, but it needs to be posted:

Cornyn's latest ads focus on his energy plan, which includes offshore drilling and opening the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge for exploration and drilling. He also says he supports "viable alternative sources," which in his book includes nuclear and coal.

This is the same senator who during the debate over the Lieberman-Warner Climate Security Act last month blamed the "Democrat-controlled Congress" for rising gas prices. "But this is not a partisan issue," he said. He dismissed the legislation as the "Boxer Climate Tax," and touted the Republican talking point that it would cause job loss and energy price increases.

"What could possibly be the rationale for legislation that would do this to our state?" he asked.

Big JohnAnd the Daily Show has already spoofed this ad, generating a campaign ad from Cornyn's supposed opponent. The word elitist is used many times, as well as several jokes Stewart can only get away with making because of his own religious and ethnic heritage.

Gutless JohnMore like Gutless John unwilling to show some leadership and tell this constituents that their decadent fossil-fuel based lifestyle is over.

Not liked by Yellow DogsAside from John's "open government" philosophy he started when Attorney General (and hasn't done much about since then), most yellow dog Democrats in Texas hate his proverbial guts. Including me.
Does he represent his voter base in Texas?  Well, I suppose he does, although he doesn't seem to support wind or solar energy that is being promoted by other Republicans in Texas, chiefly Jerry Patterson of the TX General Land Office. The omission is very telling.
For you politicos, Governor "good hair" Perry wants to run for President after this administration, Sen. K. Bailey Hutchinson wants to be Texas Governor, and John Corny or whatever ... gee, we need somewhere for him to go ... said very tongue in cheek.  -sammie

"makes little states squirm"?This ad is positively un-American.  If it were not for a few sweet Texans such as Sammie Wells, Representative Sheila Jackson-Lee (originally from Queens, NY), and the horticulturalists at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, I would say we should chuck the state out of the Union and say Good Riddance.
