Anything else I can do for you, sir?David, my life was so empty until I met you and/or encountered Gristmill.

I was lost and alone in the desert...moaning, crying, and beseeching the heavens for some sign: a crust of human kindness, a drop of mercy, an old bottlecap of hope, a whale fluke with the message "Bite Me," anything... anything... maybe even a burning bush?  And then there was You.  And Gristmill.  My steps are now springier, my hair has luster, my eyes brighter...and the wag is back in my tail. Ah, sweet mystery of life, at last I found you.... or at least, where you and your buds hang out.

Fellow Virgo...I salute you.  Did you know that even the Virgin Mary was a Virgo (hence Virgo the virgin?).  Coincidence?  I think not.
    Happiest of days.

how can I ever repay thee?My life was a passed-over piece of pumpkin shell, picked apart by pigeons on the pavement, before I discovered Grist, and the immortal words of David Roberts.
    Or whatever.
So feliz cumplean~os, and for the sake of a better and better world, many happy returns!
Today also happens to be Little White Dog's birthday.  She is now four years old.  She asked for three things: first, that everybody be nice to her; second, that we ask the other dogs in the building to quit bugging her; and third, a gift certificate to Oxen R Us.
(In my experience, it is difficult to have a serious discussion about animal deaths, with most members of the Order Carnivora.)
And yes, indeed, Kaela, another Virgo!  That explains lots and lots, doesn't it ...

    Chickens are our cousins!

    So are other sensitive animals!

    Enough is enough!

    No more factory farms!

VirgosKaela, did you know that virgos are one of the only signs known to get along with themselves?
    Wait, that sounded wrong.
I mean, virgos get along with other virgos. I knew I liked you for some reason!
Also, both my sons are virgos. My poor wife.

Your wife....and my Mom.  Dad was a Virgo as well.  We were tight as two bugs in a rug - drove Mom batty.
And yes, Virgos do get along with other Virgos (and hopefully with themselves!  is that what the kids are calling it these days?).

My life will be fulfilled ...... once we get to that vodka watermelon marinating in the fridge.  Then I will likely be singing your praises at the top of my lungs throughout the Grist office.

Happy Birthday David!I have never found another journalist (except maybe my dad) who better articulated the perspective I find to be the most rational. Thank you for what you do. I think you're great. Happy birthday.

Happy BirthdayVirgos make good editors. All the astrologers say so. Or maybe that's the Year of the Rat. I forget.

    Virgos and philosophersDavid,
You may be the only philosopher I can stand. And that's high praise.
I have a friend who dated a string of Virgos. But she's a Capricorn, and tended to, um, trample all over them. She has since broken the cycle and is happily partnered.
I have no idea what that means.

I'm with LegumeSamGrist has wrecked my life as well. Someone needs to start an organization to help us. "I am a Gristmilloholic..."

In the end, it all comes down to biodiversity. Help acquire and protect ecological hotspots, give to a conservation organization: http://www.saveourbiodiversity.com
