Just because it’s winter doesn’t mean there’s no bike news out there. To wit!
- Minneapolis is working on a bike-share program called, appropriately enough, Nice Ride Minnesota. But its launch has been pushed back, reports the Minnesota Daily, due to “complications in securing the $1.75 million in federal funding necessary to implement the program.” Hm, might want to look into other sources.
- Similar bike-sharing pilot programs are planned in Ottawa, San Francisco, and Taipei, among other places.
- Amist all that promising news, bike-share proto-city Paris continues to struggle with vandalism and thefts, and the company that runs the program there says it can’t go on with the current set-up.
- But back to happy bike news: the Pittsburg, Kansas, city council has approved the creation of a bike park on the site of a former dump.
- Enterprising students at the University of Montana-Bozeman are working on a system that would use GPS to warn drivers when they’re about to cream a cyclist.
- For Valentine’s Day, Graham Hill helpfully points us to a Chicago-area business that delivers sex aids by bike (with hope, they’re of the non-toxic variety).
- And finally, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel suggests a new form of couples counseling: riding a tandem. Roll on, spring!
