Thousands of protesters in over 50 cities call for climate action, now 2

This weekend, thousands of people around the world protested for climate action in at least 50 cities, urging the governments meeting at the United Nations climate conference in Bali, Indonesia, to get serious about curbing climate change. An estimated 10,000 people protested in London, marching through the streets to rally outside the U.S. embassy, emphasizing their particular disdain for obstructionist U.S. climate policy. Others marched and rallied in Auckland, New Zealand; Athens, Greece; Berlin, Germany; Fairbanks, Alaska; Helsinki, Finland; Manila, Philippines; and more. Cyclists, skiers, and swimmers made appearances at various rallies, as did activists in the requisite polar-bear costume. The award for best, most succinct protest sign goes to: "There is no Planet B." The coolest T-shirt award, of course, goes to "Dude, we are that frog."

    Bless them all!

I don't think there is any substitute for demoes like this. Everyone has become so clever with e-mails, podcasts, blogs and the sort, but people in the street, being with other people, creating a living, breathing reality for their hopes, dreams, angers and demands, can never be dispensed with. We can be quite skilled at political horse trading, working the hall ways of Washington and our state houses, but without some street activity, our efforts are like a three legged stool that is missing one leg.

    Bless them all.

    disappointing

I was at the Toronto rally and was disappointed by the turnout. I think the rally could have been better publicized. This was a far cry from the masses that demonstrated in Toronto against the Iraq war in 2003

The good news is the rally got excellent press, and the coverage is positive. Keep up the good work!
