    Yes, a hoaxI'm not sure when Jeff posted his update (maybe you didn't see it), but The Oil Drum reported on May 1 that this story is indeed a hoax.

    Well the energy IS there20 gallons of gas per barrel of oil (after refining) x 7.5 kwh per gallon of gas equivalent (in electric cars) x 60 billion barrels =  9 trillion kwh.
    The output of 400 50 mw wind/wave combination energy generating floating installations in the gulf would about cover that, over 50 years.  About the time frame that oil would be produced and used within.
    At 2 cents per kwh or less.  
    How many oil rigs would it take to do that?  How much CO 2 emitted?  How many oil spills?
