Olympia Snowe on GOP losing enviros, everyone else 4

“We’re excluding the young, minorities, environmentalists, pro-choice—the list goes on. ... To the average American who’s struggling, we’re in some other stratosphere. We’re the party of Big Business and Big Oil and the rich.”

Sen. Olympia Snowe of Maine, on the Republican Party

Wow! A Rupblican that tells the truth, except she doesn't admit they ARE the party of big oil, big business and the rich. That is very obvious.

Well ok. How does partisan politics (or party bashing) apply to Grist? I hope not at all. Frankly, they pay really well for partisan bashing over at Huffpost, so go there if you need a few bucks,  but how that kind of  "ink" is worth anything to a site that proposes to address real food, energy and climate problems must be out of my depth. One of the roots of our problems is the thought that one party represents the environment (party D, the one the brought us biofuels in the form of Ethanol, or party R  that opposes all things good. At least they out of the closet in admitting they are owned by big chem. Both parties are equally  evil.  Beware the one that comes to you in party clothes of Red or Blue with a solution of an environmental issue.

As a former Yankee myself, I can assure you that Mrs. Snowe is a very moderate for a Republican, and really makes the "tard-core" conservatives mad.  She's one of the top performing US Senators alive and on the job and is regarded as being a good candidate for president.  She represents a long line of Yankee Republicans who are known for being fiscally prudent, pragmatic as to policy, conservative on resources such as the ocean (meaning protective) ... and she is quite disillusioned with the current Republican Party. Well I say "right on, Olympia!" To me, Olympia transcends over the stupidity of party-line politics.  Matter of fact, she's "crossed the line" many times like another maverick, John McCain.  And what's important is that she geneuinely cares about the people she represents in Maine, the fisheries, the plight of an aging population (Maine has one of the highest), poverty, and the environment.  Indeed she is fearless, and makes some of us liberals and "D's" look like pantywaists.
