War is peace; chemical ag is sustainable ag 1

“... I will mention that I support organic and sustainable agriculture. In fact, Norman Borlaug, father of the Green Revolution and from my home state of Iowa, is credited for creating a sustainable agriculture system decades ago.”

—Sen. Chuck Grassley (R.-Iowa), in a blustery, error-laden attack on Bryan Walsh’s Time Magazine article “The Real Cost of Cheap Food”

Peace - not war (and an us VS them mentality) and cooperative understanding is the key to making headway in these all important areas. Organic is only part of the answer to a very complex issue. I'm not responding to just this story, but to to all the stories that take a position against science or agribusiness in general. It is important that we abandon a 'organic VS conventional' way of thinking and for all concerned folks to work together towards a common goal of sustainability through clear understanding of ALL the facts. Clearly, scientists are not always right, big agribusiness is about profit (even big organic) and organic does not have all the answers. But, put our heads together and we have a chance - butting heads just leads to deeper division. I strongly suggest reading the book 'Just Food' by James McWilliams - read it with an open mind, this can be hard to do, especially for those emotionally involved, but read it with your intellect, not your heart. Great respect for your good intentions and I share your passionate desire for greater sustainability and safer food. Peace my brother.
