Haunting, dramatic, and ... Canadian

Friday music blogging: Lightning Dust 1

lightning dust - infinite lightLast year I FMB’d Black Mountain, a druggy, bell-bottomed Canadian indie band that does fantastic stoner rock.

Two members of that band, Amber Webber and Joshua Wells, formed a side project a few years ago called Lightning Dust. They have a new album out, Infinite Light, and it’s well worth your time.

Where Black Mountain lay on the psychedelia pretty heavy, Lighting Dust is a bit more open and airy, more accessible, slightly more theatrical. It hangs together because of Webber’s haunting, shivering voice, one of the most memorable voices in popular music right now.

This song is called “I Knew.”

There is a local Gibsons band called Sweet Cascadia and they play a locally written song called Riding my Bike that is every bit as good as BOTH SIDES NOW and BIG YELLOW TAXI, a could be classic for today - but they haven't recorded it yet. Most of the band members are enviro educators and most of their songs are about being the change. Somebody should record them and make the bits available carbon free cause they're singing our song. (not much on net but pictures http://www.lagoonsociety.com/sweet-cascadia.php )
