How did your rep vote on the House climate and energy bill? 8

climate vote

By a vote of 219-212, the U.S. House of Representatives on June 26 passed a landmark climate and energy bill—the American Clean Energy and Security Act, aka the Waxman-Markey bill.

Most Democrats voted for the bill—211 in all—but 44 Dems voted against. Almost all Republicans opposed the bill—168—but eight Republicans broke ranks to support the measure. Many reps sat on the fence until the last minute. We’ve bolded fence-sitters and reps who broke with their parties.  (If you’re not sure who your representative is, go here to find out.)

The televised debate on the Clean Energy and Security Act was great theatre.  Representative Waxman did a superb job of keeping it moving and introducing his speakers. Particularly eloquent and excellent arguing for the bill were Baldwin of Wisconsin, John Larson, Connecticut, Matsui, California, Eshoo, California, Brale, Iowa, Doyle, Pennsylvania, Degette, Colorado and Jay Inslee of Washington. Did anyone watching the debate wonder why no one mentioned the following: 1. Scientific data, such as the fact that CO2 emissions are increasing at 2 parts per million per year now and are now higher than any time in the past million years, or the recent MIT predictions of temperature rise of 4.5 to 9 o F by 2100  2. the specific economic cost of allowing greenhouse gas emissions to continue to rise   3. that the average US citizen is responsible for about 20  tons of CO2 emissions while The average citizen of China only causes  5 tons of emissions, I am also curious as to why CSpan covered  Republican diatribes and ramblings against the climate bill from about 3 PM to 8 PM Pacific time. After the debate. I must have missed the vote, and  kept turning the Cspan on periodically , and here were these long winded sustainability obstructionists. It would have been nice to hear instead testimony of Alaska natives losing their homes, victims of forest fires or hurricanes, or shellfish fishermen on the Pacific coast in danger of losing their livelihood to acidic oceans.

Are you mad???  American population is WHAT??? 300 million compared to WHAT??? 1 billion plus??? CO2 emissions in the US are down they are not going up here in the US.  China is now the biggest polluter in the world and we hear nothing about them.  Again a multi staged change program will make the effort we need while keeping it affordable.  If it costs to much American shutdown.  Spead the cost over time and Americans will come along.  Threaten American jobs and lifestyles and American balk Reinforce the idea that change will improve American jobs and lifestyles and Americans will come along. From oil based fuels to compressed natural gas to hydrogen to all electric and we will get there.  Force an all or nothing change will only get you nothing.  Greenies need to take a more Asian tact to getting what they want.  Time will get you what you want better than beating the bad polluters over the head with excessive taxation and destroying jobs as you go.

I double-checked this with my rep's webpage at house.gov (D. Price -- D NC), and it says there that he voted "aye." What's with the discrepancy?

You're right -- David Price (D-N.C.) voted for the bill.  We've corrected this.  Thanks for pointing it out.

Global warming is a lie. No need for climate laws. It's just one more way to control people and lead to a one world government. Next thing you know they will have monitors in your bathroom to see how much gas you create. That's next on Pelosi's list of things to do. LOLhttp://www.raptureforums.com

You've got Chet Edwards (D-TX) highlighted and listed on both sides of the list! Did he get two votes? We know about fences here in Texas . . . .
