Al Gore offers support of .eco domain 2

Move over, Dot Com; it’s Dot Eco’s turn at internet fame. Environmental heavyweights such as Al Gore and former Sierra Club Executive Director Carl Pope give a brief video promo for “.eco,” a top level domain for green-minded nonprofits, businesses, and individuals on the internet. The Support Dot Eco website calls this movement “an important step in the evolution of the internet,” but it remains to be seen if .eco will survive domain Darwinism. Watch the video, and decide for yourself.

The science and multimedia-loving Ashley Braun writes, tweets, and Facebooks for Grist. And sometimes she does this for herself. You should follow her on Twitter, but not in real life. That’s called “stalking,” you creepster.

I dunno, there's something missing from this pitch. What could it be?  Oh, I know...women!

You're right -  no women, and all looking a bit pale on it too.  What also concerns me is the potential for greenwashers to take advantage of this domain.  One of the speakers here says there will be screening to make sure that companies/ngos/individuals genuinely support earth-friendly policies and practices.   But what will be the criteria, determined by whom, monitored by whom?  This has real potential to be (another) feel-good marketing bandwagon unless there's a lot of work done to give it some real substance.
