The week in fruitloopery: jaw-dropping things Republicans are saying about climate and energy 4

I hope everyone’s following the Waxman-Markey hearings via C-SPAN and Twitter, specifically @kate_sheppard @climatebill and @MarkeyMemo.  If you’re not, you’re missing some vintage fruitloopery. Really jaw-dropping stuff.

Here are a few videos rounded up from the last few days.

Rep. “Smokey” Joe Barton (R-Texas) went on C-SPAN’s Washington Journal to say ... oh, how to pick one thing? CO2 is benign because it’s in cola? We can’t regulate CO2 because “you can’t regulate God”? Choose your favorite nugget of dimwittery!

Then there’s Rep. John Shimkus (R-Ill.), who says CO2 can’t be bad because we breathe it out!

And then Shimkus, awkwardly trying to kiss up to corporations while also parroting the GOP’s hilarious new “fighting for the little guy” line, and generally botching the job:

Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.) says that implementing national efficiency standards for appliances would create a “global warming gestapo”:

Here a couple of GOP reps attack green jobs:

Whee!

Rep Joe Barton really sounds like a blubbering idiot with no sign of intelligence.   And it sounds like a very closed minded individual who will not accept scientific findings and conclusions....

Come on, the Republicans stopped being a serious political party sometime during the Bush second term, and turned into a bad reality show, hosted by Rush Limbaugh, with color commentary by Fox News. It's moved well beyond tragedy and right into farce.

Good Lord. Barton finished by saying we're on the Titanic? Is he even listening to his own arguments?

"Jaw dropping things" come from the lips of Democrats, too. It seems that David Roberts reporting is neither balanced, nor fair. And before you ask, please note I am a registered Democrat. What the author needs to remember is that BOTH parties will need to work together in order to get real action on energy and climate. Creating enemies through derision is not the way to success.
