Soot, aka “black carbon,” is the biggest little contributor to climate change that you’ve never heard of. It ranks right behind CO2 even. Soot is produced by burning fuel sources like coal, wood, and diesel, but lucky for us it only hangs around in the atmosphere a few weeks, meaning cutting off the sources yields immediate breaths of fresh air for climate concerns.
