Joe Barton tries to stump Steven Chu with question about where oil comes from 3

Rep. Joe Barton (R-Texas), a climate skeptic with some wacky theories of his own, tried to stump Energy Secretary Steven Chu at Wednesday’s climate-bill hearing by asking, “How did all the oil and gas get to Alaska and under the Arctic Ocean?”

Later, Barton bragged via Twitter, “I seemed [sic] to have baffled the Energy Sec with basic question - Where does oil come from?”

Yes, Chu did look confused, but not about the origins of oil—rather, about why Barton would ask such a bizarre question.

NO. The correct answer (besides any plate movements) is that yes there was indeed a time when crocodiles lived near the north arctic circle, but you wouldn't want seven billion humans to have to live and grow crops and be sustained there. Much less go through the journey to that point.Horror show.

I am sure that Sarah Palin has made sure that oil stays in the ground, however it was created in Alaska and the Arctic Ocean.  It was probably by oil-creating alligators that Christoper mentioned in the previous post.  We're not so sure about Gulf of Mexico offshore crude oil, since it's sorta shifty like those wiliey Mexicans, and just won't stay put in one place.  Maybe they had those nasty crocodiles instead of alligators, I don't know, but they have to use drill ships and mobile submersible rigs to chase around those elusive moving oil fields, it keeps moving so much.  Such motioning around is not good for plate movements, especially after the main course has been served at the country club.
